Kayaks

I chose to write about Kayaks by Henri Cole. This poem uses imagery to describe a scene outside by a lake. The serene feeling of being by a lake reminds me of being at peace with oneself. The sun beating through me gives me an overall feeling of relaxation. The poem makes you feel like the world is stopping around you but then Cole brings up the feeling of being hurt or bitter. The feelings don’t fit in the calm scenery. This spot reminds him of being tired of a situation. Cole’s love has been deceived and this spot near the water reminds him of these hurtful feelings. I can find myself in this poem because there are places that remind me of my past relationships. There are some places that I will always return to and have a warm memory of happiness. There are other places that remind me of how upset I was and I’m bitter that I feel the way that I do. The language used helps you realize what he is saying. He sets up the poem with a warm feeling and leaves you with a cold feeling.
