We Wear the Masks
I chose We Wear the Masks by Paul Laurence Dunbar. I find myself in this poem. I live in a world of people wearing a mask. For every situation we are in we put on a different mask. Sometimes these masks cover up what we are trying to hide from the world. Drug Addicts wear masks to hide their gross addiction. Killers wear these masks to hide the number of lives they have taken away. Masks are worn to hide the lies and the truth that you don't want others to know. Every day I feel as though I wear a mask. I have to hide who I truly am while in classes and around higher authorities. While at work I can't be the person that I want to be. In so many words, I am a young woman that has a passion for music, love, and art. These passions get me through the everyday shitty life that I lead. I wake up each day wanting more. I wear the mask of being happy with my life and the things that I have. It is the music that carries me through and gets me to the next day. Music is the soundtrack to our lives and it is somewhere that I feel I can hide, much like hiding behind a mask.
