The White Lillies

I chose to write about The White Lillies by Louise Gluck. The poem speaks of two lovers that are so in love, but they live each day terrified that their love will end. I can find myself in this poem because when something good comes into my life I am skeptical about it. I always feel like I am undeserving of someone that treats me the right way. Being so in love leaves you blind to anything bad going on in your life. The loss of a loved one or a lover is extremely devastating and it can take over your whole life. When you are with someone you have to think about how great it is to be with them and not dwell on what may happen. The length and language that is used gives you a warmth throughout your body. The diction used gives you chills at the right moments of the poem. The metaphor of the man and woman making a garden together shows the growth and the care that is needed in order to keep your relationship strong.
